Special service branch of Mumbai police is forming a Black Magic Unit which will be after bogus babas and tantriks
Tantrik and Babas, who in the name of bringing goodness and changing lifestyles cheat people on pretext of providing lavish lifestyles, are now under the scanner of Mumbai police.
Mumbai police's social service branch is preparing a special team to track and nab such babas and tantriks.
“The team will be known as 'Black Magic Prevention Unit. The branch is preparing to train a team of officers who will function in coordination with all the police stations of the city. The Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013 allows the police to take action under sections of the act,” said DCP Enforcement Pravin Patil.
However, the 'Black Magic Prevention Unit will be trained to gain intelligence of such humans who in the name of getting betterment to people already suffering from problems cheat and later flee. The team will keep a tab on areas where such incidents have been occurred in the past. The training of the officers will include field and documentation research and case studies. The identification between the difference of genuine cases and religious processions will too be a part of the training.
According to The Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013.
The act does not apply to the religious practices. However the act do apply to black magic practices.
“We will try to enroll activists those have been fighting against the practices dangerous to human lives and wealth. We too appeal to the people of the city to not get cheated by baba's and trantiks who keep innocent people in dark and later flee after cheating them with monetary sums,” Patil further added.
The training will soon be started. However, the process of gathering necessary materials and equipments have already being done. Mumbai police's all 93 police stations crime police inspectors will too be enrolled in for better coordination, once the Black Magic Prevention Unit is all set operate.
“As per reports the cases in Mumbai, as compared to the rural areas, are less but the cases could be linked to the one's in rural areas or Mumbai as the baba's and tantriks mostly do not operate in high profile areas. They keep their identity low. There has been cases where the victims have been hypnotized and later sexually assaulted. In a few cases a family member first comes in contact with the accused and later other family members too fall prey to the babas. We need to spread awareness among the people to avoid being cheated with such dupers,” said an officer.
“We are keeping a tab on the social networking sites, public transports such as trains, buses and other modes to educate people,” concluded the officer.
