Facebook revenge!
A 22-year-old girl has been arrested by the Crime Branch Unit VIII for allegedly creating four fake Facebook accounts using the name of her former boyfriend's sister to extract revenge on her. The arrested girl, a resident of Goregaon, was nabbed after a month long search.
According to a Crime Branch source, “We have arrested the girl, identified as Aarti Jadhav, based on a complaint filed at the Vile Parle police station. She is a resident of Santosh Nagar in Goregaon.”
The complainant in the case alleged that someone had been circulating her pictures and mobile number on a social networking site to defame her. The girl further alleged that her image was maligned in front of her relatives and friends, and thatmany strangers have been calling her and using vulgar language. Fed up with the daily harassment since May, she lodged an FIR last month.
“As soon as the case was registered, we formed a team and began probing the matter. Initially we scanned the facebook accounts which had been created with the name of the victim, but couldn't find any information about the accused as she had created the fake accounts very cleverly,” said a police source.
“We interrogated the victim and her family members too, but they didn't suspect anyone. We then managed to zero in on Aarti Jadav, after tracing the IP address used to make the fake accounts and asked her to come to the Crime Branch office. We asked her about the victim and her family members and Aarti admitted to knowing them. When we interrogated her further, she revealed everything and confessed to creating the fake account using the name of the victim to take revenge,” he added.
In her statement to the Crime Branch, Aarti said she was in a relationship with the victim's brother for the past eight years, but the victim was always against their relationship and fought with her on many occasions as well. She further revealed that the victim's brother (her exboyfriend) got married to another girl recently, leaving her in a state of shock. She then decided to take revenge.
Aarti has been booked under Sections 419 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code, along with Sections 66(c), 66(d) and other Section of the Information Technology Act. She will be handed over to the Vile Parle police for further investigation, police said.
