Preliminary report qualifies over 23,000 hawkers out of 99,437 applications for eligibility
According to a survey conducted by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in 2014, the civic body received 99,437 applications from various hawkers and vendors. These applications were sent for preliminary scrutiny for primary eligibility. One of which states that the hawkers have to prove that they have been doing business as hawkers before May 1, 2014.
According to the report, 99,437 applications were received by the corporation, out of which a total of 96,655 applications have been scrutinised. The remaining 2,782 applications are under initial scrutiny. This check was mainly based on the following criteria and related documents:

Citizenship of India: Age at the time of survey should be 14 years.

Evidence that the vendor is doing business as a distiller before May 1, 2014.

According to the preliminary examination, 23,265 applicants were eligible for primary eligibility. While the remaining 73,390, applications lacked certain important documents and were notified to send the remaining documents by the BMC Commissioner, Ajoy Mehta. These hawkers have been given 30 days time to send the remaining documents. As per the orders of Municipal Commissioner, notice will be sent to all concerned 24 Department level offices (Ward Offices).
The above eligibility criteria will be considered for the primary eligibility and the following criteria/documents required for the final qualification are as follows:

Maharashtra Domicile Certificate.

Undertaking that only the concerned applicant or any of his family members will do the business for which the concerned license has been given.

Undertaking that the respective applicant has no other means of livelihood.

Under no condition will the applicant's vendor certificate will be rented or transferred to anyone.
