The 12 stolen cartons had watch parts to be sent to Gujarat
You can run, but can't hide and definitely cannot escape the 'watch'ful eyes of the Mumbai Police as two persons were arrested after making off with a consignment to be sent to Gujarat.
The police began looking for the two accused who had dared to escape with the goods. The incident took place on October 6 at Narsi Natha Street near Crawford Market, where the complainant Savlaram Patel alleged that one dozen cartons, comprising of watch parts (dials and straps) that were to be sent to Surat in Gujarat, went missing along with the handcart that was used to ferry the goods.
The items which were being sent to the transporter in Masjid Bunder mysteriously disappeared, alleged the labourer who went inside the office to get something and came back five minutes later to find the whole cart missing from the parked spot. This was immediately conveyed to Patel, a Parel resident, who approached the Pydhonie police and registered a complaint.
The theft occurred between 6.30-7.00 pm in the busy commercial area and the pair was arrested within hours of committing the theft. The police have managed to make a 100 per cent recovery of the goods (35,000 straps and dials) valued at 1.5 lakhs.
“We tapped our sources, who informed us that the stolen goods have been kept in Madanpura area and the informer also told us about the two accused involved in committing the crime. We will interrogate them further,” said an official on condition of anonymity.
One of the accused has been identified as Noor Alam Sheikh, a 20-year-old labourer hailing from West Bengal, who was arrested along with his accomplice. The duo have been remanded to police custody as the cops continue to probe further. The duo have been booked under Sections 379 (Punishment for theft) of the Indian Penal Code.
