Natanam Studio presented an evening of classical music and dance at their studio in Goregoan. It was interesting to witness an evening of music, Odissi and Kathak in the same platform, in the Baithak series.
Natanam is headed by accomplished Kathak exponent Dr Piyush Raj. As part of the Baithak series, it is encouraging to note that Piyush has been regularly organising programs in order to promote and propagate classical arts and also to encourage young talent and established performers.
The evening commenced with the musical rendering by Dr Shailesh Shrivastava. Shailesh rendered a refreshing and entertaining performance wherein she demonstrated as how how folk and classical music has been adapted in varied films in order to suit the temperament of the film. Shailesh concluded with beautiful composition that symbolised the joyous union of Lord Shiva and Parvati.
The best male dancer of the evening was Sanatan Chakravarty, disciple of Odissi exponent Jhelum Paranjape. After the invocatory Mangalacharan in praise of Lord Jagannath, Sanatan performed a Pallavi, which was fine combination of both elegance and vibrancy. While maintaining the clarity of movements, Sanatan revealed his mastery in the technique as well. Sanatan concluded the performance with a traditional Oriya number. Earlier, Neha Vaidya from Pune presented a pleasing and rhythmic Kathak performance. On the whole an interesting evening of music and dance.
