In earlier years, a number of people had faulted actor Shah Rukh Khan for being a tad too self-obsessed and not having the inclination for undertaking charitable deeds. But all that has changed now and, what’s more, the actor last week received and honorary doctorate in London from The University of Law for his philanthropic work. Incidentally the actor has been championing, for some time now, the cause of the Meer Foundation which works with women who are victims of violence, especially the victims of acid attacks. The foundation has been undertaking corrective surgeries and rehabilitation of acid attack victims and the actor has interacted with such survivors on more than one occasion. The ‘My Name Is Khan’ actor has also earned love for championing human rights in the country. In recent years, he has lent support to government campaigns, including Pulse Polio and National Aids Control Organization. The superstar has also worked closely with the Make-a-Wish Foundation. “I believe that charity should be done in silence and with dignity. One cannot speak about their charitable acts because it loses its purpose. I have been privileged to be able to use my status as a public personality to champion causes close to my heart,” Shah Rukh said in a statement as he received his doctorate among 350 graduating students in London last Thursday.
