Future plans include a mobile app for students

The Mumbai University (MU) has declared 151 results, which include results for major streams like Bachelor of Commerce (BCom), Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Science (BSc). There are now 339 results pending.

Addressing last year's problems of late and chaotic results, Suhas Pednekar, Vice-Chancellor of the University, said, “After all the obstacles in our way last year, we have taken the necessary steps to ensure that the same thing does not happen this year. As the online assessment system was new last year, teachers also needed training for the same. As I was also a principal earlier, I could ensure that the principals were overlooking the teachers' timely correction.” When asked if there would be more challenges for the University to face, Pednekar said, “If there are no challenges in life, you cannot go ahead easily. Challenges are everywhere, but we are also learning. Let us be as transparent as possible, our purpose is to minimise the inconveniences of students.”

The University of Mumbai set forward it's reforms for the winter session, which include an application on Android which will be exclusively available for students. Students can directly access this app through their permanent registration number and look at the updated time table, results and additional information. Other reforms include online attendance for the students when exams are being conducted, customised answer booklets to avoid wrong bubbling, automated photocopy/revaluation process with online payment, strengthening of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure of colleges and 100 per cent online marks entry for internal, practical, project, NSS, NCC etc.”

The 490 programs offered by the University have 4,18,387 candidates. The 151 results declared are for 2,23,866 students, while the 339 courses whose results are yet to be declared have 1,94,521 students. Out of the 45 courses in Humanities, results for 15 have been declared and 30 are still pending. For the 95 programs under Commerce and Management, results for 23 have been declared and 72 are pending. Science and Technology covers 219 courses in total, of which results for 68 have been declared and 151 are pending. Interdeclipine Studies has 131 courses, with 45 results declared and 86 remaining. According to the Vice Chancellor, online assessment is a fool-proof method for checking results and works very well.

The results are being declared within the 45 given days after the respective exams have gotten over. The BA result was declared within 37 days, BCom (27 days), BSc (31 days), BSc IT (35 days) and BMS (42 days).
