National Level MUN in the city organized by Gopi Birla Memorial School

Wednesday, July 18, 2018

Gopi Birla Memorial School (GBMS) powered by Birla Edutech and Indian International Model United Nations (IIMUN) as the knowledge partner, had organised a city level Model United Nations on July 13 and 14 at GBMS. This event saw 500 students from various schools across the country participate in the third edition MUN organised by GBMS alumni and hosted by Birla Edutech.

A Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an educational simulation or activity in which participants or delegates in conferences are placed in committees such as the World Health Organisation (WHO), International Labour Organisation (ILO), United Nations Security Council (UNSC), United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) etc. These delegates are made to represent various UN signatory countries and address dire subjects that conflict our world such as Cyber War, improving working conditions of South-Asian countries, Human Trafficking, Uniform Civil Code to name a few. Students gain a better understanding of the inner workings of the UN while also providing a forum to hone skills in diplomacy, negotiation, critical thinking, compromise, public speaking, writing and research. This motivates young students to think like world leaders which instill a sense of obligation and responsibility as a global citizen.

Expressing his views, Nirvaan Birla – Head of Business Development, said, “We are now in the era of contemporary education that treats holistic development as a cornerstone of education. Platforms like GBMUN equip students with skills that bring about the most in them. The emotional and intellectual capabilities are nurtured along with understanding of the social concerns and the utilisation of creative potential to formulate solutions for those issues.

Dr. Veena Shrivastava – Principal, Gopi Birla Memorial School, said, “As the students role-play global leaders and debate on a wide range of agendas following ROP, the complete process helps in confidence building and strengthens public speaking ability. It is overwhelming to see the uprising talent and gives me immense pleasure to be a part of GBMUN that provides the students with the opportunity to research and develop skills required for the 21stcentury.”

The Chief Guest of the closing ceremony of GBMUN – Soami Saran expressed his delight by saying, "It was exciting to witness passionate, dedicated and intelligent young minds at work at GBMUN. The students here are the leaders of tomorrow and it is intriguing to see the ideas they have, to solve the problems faced by our world. The issues were thoroughly well researched and the solutions offered were innovative. It shows the strong foundation of the learning years and that they hold the potential to solve a lot of the issues of the world that they will inherit. It was an immense pleasure for me to felicitate our future leaders."
